Prof. Köster invented the CCMS technology, which caprotec™ bioanalytics GmbH is commercializing.

Throughout his scientific career he has pioneered other early developments in genetic engineering and DNA & protein synthesis and analysis. He has formed and led three successful biotechnology companies: Biosyntech (first biotech company in Germany, founded in Hamburg, Germany in 1981); Milligen / Biosearch (biotech division of Millipore, Bedford, MA founded in 1986, VP Science & Technology), and Sequenom (San Diego, CA and Hamburg, Germany, founded in 1994; CSO and from 1997 President & CEO; led $157 million IPO in 2000 [NASDAQ:SQNM], the third best IPO in biotech history).

Dr. Köster is an inventor holding 60 issued US patents and has authored more than 120 scientific publications. He studied chemistry at the University of Hamburg, earned a doctoral degree in Chemistry at the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine in Göttingen, and did post-doctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Virus Research in Tübingen. Dr. Köster was a Visiting Professor at Boston University and has served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Biophysical & Biochemical Methods and Biomolecular Engineering.
